The international seminar, organized by the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), under the title “Intellectual Property and Innovation: Alliance for Regional Development,” was held in San Salvador from June 8 to 10, 2025. This event brought together leading professionals, authorities, businessmen, academics, and representatives of international organizations to reflect on the role of intellectual property as a strategic tool for economic growth and integration in Latin America.

Covarrubias was represented by founding partner Arturo Covarrubias and the head of the Trademark Department, Fernanda Chamorro, who attended various workshops focused on key issues such as technological innovation, the role of IP in regional entrepreneurship, regulatory challenges in enforcement, and new models of public-private collaboration in innovation.

The event provided an opportunity to analyze successful cases in the use of intangible assets as vehicles for development, as well as the legal and administrative gaps that countries in the region still face to enhance their innovative capacity. It also addressed emerging trends such as the use of blockchain in rights protection, the impact of artificial intelligence on intellectual property systems, and the growing importance of protection schemes for appellations of origin and biodiversity.

ASIPI has over 60 years of history and is one of the most influential organizations in strengthening intellectual property in Latin America. Its meetings promote the exchange of knowledge, the harmonization of legal criteria, and the strengthening of professional networks between countries.

Covarrubias’ participation in these events reinforces its commitment to the development of intellectual property as a driver of regional competitiveness and to the constant updating of the challenges faced by its clients in dynamic, interconnected, and evolving contexts.
